Here are some good places to enjoy a beer this summer: At a barbecue. Beside the pool. On the beach (in a cozy or opaque generic container depending on where you’re beaching). On a balcony, at a ballgame and, most importantly, at your local brewery. Luckily on Delmarva there’s no shortage of local craft breweries (that’s why we have this site and why I blog on here in the first place), and they really put the craft in craft beer. There’s always something new, creative and innovative in the works no matter which brewhouse you’ve stopped in.
Ever the creative geniuses, most brewery employees are notoriously bad at keeping their websites and social media accounts updated with all their goings-on. Here, I would like to commend those who do. And I would like to provide a place, right here, where you can find at least some of the events, activities and releases happening at the Eastern Shore’s local breweries this July. Even if you don’t see anything here that tickles your fancy, keep in mind that we’re entering the busiest month of the year on the Shore, so wherever you go there’s a 90% chance there will be live entertainment, a fresh new beer on tap or at the very least, someone interesting at the bar to converse with.
Happy trails, happy Fourth of July, and be sure to provide your cookout guests with some local craft beer options this holiday season!
3rd Wave
It’s time for a juice box. 3rd Wave’s Delmar tasting room will be open from 12 – 5 p.m. on the Fourth of July, so you’ll be able to get your hands on a crowler or 4-pack to help you celebrate the holiday. More here.
Stop by Pitt Stop Beer & Wine in Berlin on July 6 to sample 3rd Wave’s latest releases. 3rd Wave is Pitt Stop’s Beer of the Month, and they’ll be offered at a discount through July.
Backshore
Ocean City’s #1 Boardwalk Brewery will be releasing their first-ever barleywine this July, brewed with walnuts, honey, grape must and orange peel, to celebrate their 300th batch. There will also be a fresh new Pulped & Pressed crowler release, so be on the lookout for that one.
(The post below features the Pulped & Press June release, but you get the idea.)
Big Oyster
There’s definitely something happening in July… On July 14, to be exact… We just don’t know what yet. “Only time will tell.” (More Big Oyster happenings here.)
Brick Works
Smyrna’s newest brewery’s got something new cooking for July, too, and it’ll taste especially good if you like mango (mongo?). Head on over to the brewpub/restaurant on July 19 to try the new beer, pick up a commemorative glass and enjoy $3 refills.
Crooked Hammock
There’s always a ton going on at Crooked Hammock no matter what the season. Every Wednesday from 8 – 11 a.m. there’s a farmer’s market just across from the brewery on Crooked Hammock Way featuring fresh goods from local vendors and farmers. Weekly happenings including Cooking with Beer specials and live music can be found here.
Evo
Breaking news: As of July, Lot 3 comes in a can! Your favorite IPA can now be taken out on the beach, on the campground and everywhere else where glass might be prohibited, just in time for summer.
Fin City
OC’s oldest brewery has a new reel-ease every month — you can check their website to see exactly when the next one’s coming. Also on their website is the New Brew Request Line, where you can submit your craziest and most imaginative idea for a new beer and if it’s a winner, Fin City will brew it at the end of the summer.
Tall Tales
Live music is what’s happening this month at Tall Tales. Check the calendar here for details. On July 23 is Eat, Drink & DIY Night where you can enjoy a pint of beer while crafting your own succulent wall hanging.
