Backshore Brewing Company
Backshore Brewing is a great, small brewery located on 10th St. of the Boardwalk. After having a relaxing walk in the hot sun, Backshore is a great place to stop for a quick bite to eat or some fantastic drinks!
Backshore has a small bar and outdoor seating area, but right now they are a little more confined due to safety precautions. The theme of the brewery fits perfectly with the beach and boardwalk. With a vintage bus in the front, and flights served on a mini skateboard, guests can enjoy a retro theme while having a great view of the ocean! Seating varies between picnic tables with umbrellas, high tops, and a few indoor barstools. Currently, all food is being served in disposable platters. Employees are also taking necessary precautions to follow recommended safety guidelines.
Backshore’s Brews
Backshore offers 6 different types of brews, all made in house. The beers they offer are: Boardwalk Blonde, Downtown Sugar Brown, Tutti FN Frutti, It’s Getting Hot in Beer, Bravo Bravo, and Hoop Tea Blood Orange with Agave. The Boardwalk Blonde is a light, blonde beer that’s extremely refreshing in the summer heat. The Downtown Sugar Brown is a dark, English Ale that’s smooth due to the brown sugar. The Tutti FN Frutti is a fruit beer that has 0 IBU. It’s extremely fresh. The added fruit puree added in gives this beer an amazing taste. It’s Getting Hot in Beer is a very interesting drink for those willing to try it. It’s a pale ale flavored with mango and spiced habanero. This interesting concoction is packed with flavor and the habanero adds a very curious taste to the beer. The Bravo Bravo IPA is more bitter than the others on the list. With a 70 IBU, this beer is brewed with Bravo hops for bitterness and dry-hopped with Cascade and Ahtanum. Lastly, the Blood Orange and Agave hoop tea is a delicious drink that will be sure to quench your thirst.
A New Favorite
When visiting Backshore, I was met with a great staff and great atmosphere. I got a flight of all of their drinks and was fairly impressed with each of them. I was a bit skeptical about trying the “It’s Getting Hot in Beer” especially with its interesting aroma. But I was pleasantly surprised. You aren’t really able to taste the heat of the habanero but blended with the other ingredients it gave the beer a great taste. My personal favorite was the Bravo Bravo. This was the beer I thought I wouldn’t like at all because of the bitterness, but it was fantastic. The beer wasn’t overly bitter, but just right. Something I really love about Backshore is the presentation of the flights. When the flight arrives, it’s dropped off on a miniature skateboard with all 6 drinks placed in the deck. While it’s just a minor detail, it adds a little bit to your experience!
After trying some of the drinks, we ordered some food. I had Old Bay wings and an order of coconut shrimp. The wings were cooked perfectly and not too loaded with seasoning. It was just enough to pack them with flavor. The outside was nice and crisp with a ton of meat. The coconut shrimp was incredible. They were very fresh; the coconut breaded outside was perfect with a nice crunch. The sweetness of the coconut with the shrimp was fantastic. The other guest that was with me even went as far as to say, “This is probably the best coconut shrimp I’ve ever had.”
If you’re on the Boardwalk and looking for some great food and great local beers, Backshore is a must!
